‘She’s even a first class anatomy graduate!’ – Reactions as student makes face masks with beads

Ishicheli Kenechi, a graduate of the Delta State University (DELSU), has attracted a plethora of mixed reactions on social media after she made a beaded face mask.

As the world continues to grapple with the COVID-19 pandemic, multiple measures have been taken to contain the spread of the virus, including lockdowns and sanitary practices like wearing masks.

Alongside hand sanitizers, it is widely known that the practice of wearing a face mask is to prevent a healthy person from inhaling the pathogens that may cause them to become infected.

Kenechi, who is said to have graduated from DELSU with first-class honours in anatomy, however, got many talking on Twitter after she made a facemask which she said was meant to help fight the coronavirus while enabling users to breathe comfortably.

While a segment of netizens hailed the creativity behind her craft, others faulted it from the perspective of science, pointing how inconsequential it is in preventing one from inhaling the virus.

“A first-class anatomy graduate making face masks with beads to help people breathe better is innovative. It’s not easy for someone to come up with an amazing idea like that,” a user wrote.

“Her school deserves to be fined for giving an unintelligent anatomy student like her a final clearance, though.”

“If that’s how a first-class graduate of anatomy views this situation, what would be the state of mind of the third class?,” another user asked.

“NUC (Nigerian Universities Commission) is supposed to close down her university.”

“First class graduate of anatomy thinks wearing facemasks in an epidemic is a fashion statement. -She stood with no shame, smiling as they took her pictures.”
