Timi Dakolo, Nigerian gospel singer, has urged Christians to celebrate this year’s Easter in the comfort of their homes due to the coronavirus pandemic ravaging countries across the globe.
Easter is an annual event which commemorates the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Christians in Nigeria would join others across the globe to observe the annual event on Sunday.
In previous years, such event is often carried out in churches but with the prevalence of COVID-19 and several directives prohibiting large social and religious gatherings, many have called on Christians to observe the event at homes.
Joining the fray, the gifted gospel singer urged Christians to do away with the mindset that they can only worship God inside church buildings.
He added that it is like putting God to test should they step out of their homes to commemorate this year’s edition of the annual event in churches, despite lockdown directives aimed at combating spread of the killer virus.
“Do not put the Lord your God to test, stay home on Easter Sunday. God don’t dwell in buildings but in the hidden depth of our heart. It’s a relationship not a conference,” he wrote on Instagram.
Dakolo’s comment comes after Bankole Wellington, an entertainer and politician better known as Banky W, had taken a swipe at some Nigerian governors for relaxing lockdown directives in their states due to Easter celebrations.
