Wizkid, Nigerian Afrobeats singer, says he would be launching a streaming platform and an app to help promote African music and allow emerging music stars to benefit from the contents they put out.
The award-winning singer made the announcement on Tuesday during an interview on Capital Xtra, UK radio station.
He also spoke about his early days in the country’s music industry and the prospects of Afrobeats.
Wizkid said the streaming platform would enable African artistes to reap the profits of their artistic works and promote the continent’s music.
“I have been working on a lot of stuff for years now. For the kind of music that I make and for my people, I’ve always thought of ways in which to expand and turn it into a real business. My team and I, we’ve been working so hard. I have this streaming app that I’m about to launch right now,” he said.
“We’ve been working on that for a while now in collaboration with the United Bank of Africa, my new partners. We intend to create a streaming platform for the people to put out their music, market them and get revenue therefrom right into their pocket.”
The talented singer also spoke about plans to embark on a talent hunt in 20 African countries to discover new talents and seek collaborations.
“We have a talent hunt we’re trying to do back home. I have the 20-country African tour. We’re going to go round and pick some of the best talents from every African country, collaborate with them, help them build and see what we can do to grow the culture. I feel like the world is just getting to know Afrobeats,” he said.
“People did it before me. From D Banj’s ‘Oliver Twist’ that broke down doors for everyone to Tuface. I just play my own little part. I don’t think I’m doing anything exceptional. It’s just amazing to see what’s happening to the scene right now. Everyone is killing it, from Burna Boy and Davido to the new cats Fireboy Rema. I feel every kid from Africa deserves a chance to win.”
