Even in Africa, an argument that men should handle more financial obligations in a relationship than the women may be countered as been chauvinistic and unfounded.
However, some women are still of the opinion that one of the best impressions a man could make on a first date is proving he can financially commit to the relationship by taking care of the bill.
Another school of thought argues that splitting the bill for a romantic outing with the man provides them with a sense of self-worth and prevents awkwardness, especially on a first date.
