Google first launched the platform in Lagos in July.

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo was present for the launch of the platform in the federal capital territory on Monday.

The three sites where the free Wi-Fi is presently functioning are Wuse Market, Enab Plaza and Banex Plaza, as part of its plan to roll out across the northern part of Nigeria.

Google Station aims to bring more people fast and reliable Wi-Fi in more places where they spend time, like bus stations, shopping malls, airports and public transit stations.

The company said the Wi-Fi is available free of charge and partners “leverage Google Station’s business model, which enables venues, system integrators, businesses and ISPs with access to fibre to set up, maintain and monetise their Wi-Fi networks”.

Speaking at the launch event, Saidu Abdullahi, Google Nigeria’s head of partnerships for Next Billion Users, said: “Now, users in Abuja, will experience high-quality connections to the internet in airports, malls and universities.

“We want to expand to new high-traffic venues to help more people get online, and we’re looking for strategic and forward-thinking partners to work with on this effort.”
