‘Johnny’, produced by Selebobo, was released in 2014. It was in February 2018 adjudged the most viewed YouTube video by an African artiste.

In an interview on Trending, a show on HIP TV, Alade said the song remains her biggest break on the global stage.

She said: “The music industry for me is like a big school. You never really graduate until you quit. The most beautiful thing for me is actually getting recognition for the music.

“There are levels to every big break. My first big break was winning a talent show in 2009.

“On a global scale, my biggest break in terms of music will definitely by Johnny. At the moment, it has the most views by an African artiste.

“It’s an exciting experience. At the moment, it’s getting one to 1.5 million views every month.

“I feel very happy. It encourages me to keep working. I feel like the day I stop working is the day that the views will stop counting.”

The singer said although women in the music industry have become more consistent, the sector is still male-dominated.

She said: “Here in Nigeria, I still believe the music industry is male-dominated. The females have actually become more resilient, consistent and stronger.

“We are doing so well and I’m super happy to be part of this generation at this time when females are coming out in their numbers.”
