Uber has announced that those under the age of 18 will no longer be allowed to book rides without a companion.
In a new set of guidelines and rules released on Monday, Uber banned drivers and riders from making any form of physical contact while on a trip.
“Uber’s updated community guidelines help explain what is not acceptable on an Uber trip,” a statement by Uber read.
“Many of these are obvious to most of us but they should be noted – whether it’s throwing up in the backseat or leaving rubbish in the car, the below list of guidelines is one that everyone using Uber should understand – driver-partners, and riders as well as those travelling with other riders/friends.”
The taxi service company has said it would ban anyone found flouting these rules.
Safety
Drivers are advised to adhere to rules of the road, by sticking to the speed limit and not drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Riders are also advised to play a part by wearing their seatbelts at all times, and to also refrain from bringing alcohol or banned substances into the vehicle.
No solo rides for underage riders
Those under the age of 18 cannot have an Uber account by themselves, except they take an Uber with adult supervision.
An unaccompanied minor will have his/her account deactivated immediately, if discovered to be an account holder.
Uber craves feedback
Feedback gives Uber to access to know if riders are satisfied or otherwise. Both drivers and riders were advised to provide feedback after any trip.
Drivers become accountable for their actions and conscious of their behaviour, when they are being rated.
Personal space
Drivers and riders have been urged to respect personal space during a trip, and not make each other feel uncomfortable. Sexual conducts between drivers and riders were also forbidden.
Flirting and touching from both parties. Other physical contacts such as hitting or attempting to hurt a driver are also prohibited.
Respect
In the guidelines, it was also noted that under no circumstances should riders or drivers disrespect each other.
Unruly behaviour and being aggressive can get a driver banned from the app.
