The KAP Film & Television Academy, in partnership with the Oyo government, has celebrated the graduation of 165 students who completed its intensive Filmmaking Residency Program.

The event, held on Wednesday at the KAP Film Village & Resort in Igbojaye, Oyo, marked the conclusion of a 10-day hands-on training supported by SONY and Kontakt Pro Nigeria.

Participants were drawn from all 33 local government areas of the state and trained across key disciplines such as screenwriting, directing, cinematography, producing, editing, and sound design.

The ceremony also included the screening of eight short films produced by the residency groups.

The projects showcased rich storytelling, teamwork, and reflections of local culture, earning applause from guests and veteran filmmakers at the event.

Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo, represented by Wasiu Olatunbosun, commissioner for culture and tourism, described the initiative as a milestone in youth empowerment and cultural development.

He praised Kunle Afolayan, founder of the KAP Film & Television Academy, for fostering a creative ecosystem that nurtures film talent while promoting tourism in the state.

He described the programme as “a true representation of Oyo’s cultural pride and creative excellence”.

In his address, Afolayan lauded the government’s support and encouraged the graduating filmmakers to uphold discipline and authenticity in their craft.

“Attention to details and commitment to creativity are non-negotiable for great filmmakers,” he said.

“These students have shown that talent, when nurtured in the right environment, can flourish into excellence. I encourage them to keep making films together and continue telling our stories with pride.”

The students also received feedback from respected industry professionals including Tunde Kelani, Joke Silva, Kemi Adesoye, Rotimi Fakunle, and Lola Maja.

The Oluigbo of Igbojaye, Oba Zaccheus Olatunji Oyeleke Alobaloke III, also expressed delight at the academy’s achievements, noting that the KAP Film Village continues to fulfill its vision of transforming the local economy and showcasing Oyo’s cultural heritage.

The KAP Filmmaking Residency Programme underscores the academy’s mission to train, empower, and inspire a new generation of African storytellers.
