Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke, a 14-year-old autistic Nigerian boy, is aiming to set a new Guinness World Record (GWR) for the largest art canvas.
Autism, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), refers to a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication.
Kanye, as he is fondly called, will commence his record-breaking attempt on August 20 as part of a project by the Zeebah Foundation titled ‘Impossibility Is A Myth’.
The artist seeks to raise funds for the foundation’s state-of-the-art autism resource centre in Abuja, Nigeria through his attempt.
The student of the Zeebah Foundation also hopes to promote autism awareness, inclusion and acceptance through art.
The teenager, a fellow of the Society of Nigerian Artists, would paint on a canvas measuring 10,000 square meters (107,638 ft²).
The largest artwork on a canvas is 9,652 m² (103,893 ft²). It was achieved by Emad Salehi (Iran) in Doha, Qatar on December 7, 2022.
Born in November 2009, Kanye is a young creative artist whose works have graced the walls of several galleries and museums in Nigeria, Europe and other parts of Africa.
In 2018, his art alongside three other Nigerian artists, was featured for the first time at the Opec Fund for International Development (OFID) in Vienna.
The Zeebah Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting children with autism, their families and caretakers.
It aims to build a state-of-the-art resource centre in Abuja.
