Kunle Afolayan, ace filmmaker, says the first collection from his new fashion line is “making sales”.
The ‘Irapada’ director recently launched Ire Clothings and released ‘Kunle’s Kembe’ as the flagship collection.
Kembe, a traditional Yoruba baggy trousers, has enjoyed a rejuvenation of sorts after Afolayan made it his signature outfit and later commercialised it.
Speaking with TheCable Lifestyle, Afolayan said Kunle’s Kembe is enjoying immense patronage.
He said: “Oja N’ ta (We are making sales) and as you can see, even the executive governor of Lagos state is rocking it because it’s art and when you have a platform that is being used to the fullest, people will definitely support you.”
The filmmaker said his clothing line is not limited to the Kembe collection, disclosing that there will be more to come from Ire Clothings.
“Kunle Kembe is the first collection from Ire Clothings and going forward, several clothing attires will be released,” he said.
“The Kembe is just our first test run and we are not doing badly at all in the market.”
Afolayan will showcase alongside 80 fashion designers from Africa and Europe at the fifth edition of the Africa Fashion Week Nigeria.
The event will hold between September 15 and 16 at the Lagoon Restaurant in Victoria Island, Lagos.
