Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju has secured the release of an X user known as Small Ralph (real name Seun), who was arrested after content creator Lawrence Alabi filed a complaint alleging cyberbullying and defamation.

The controversy began when Small Ralph made online remarks about Alabi and his wife Omotara.

Alabi reported the posts, which he described as “defamatory and part of a campaign of online bullying,” to the police, leading to the arrest.

The content creator later shared a video of the detained young man kneeling before him — an act widely criticised on social media.

Public backlash was swift. Commentators, including user Ayo Elesho, condemned the treatment, questioning why Alabi, based in the UK, would pursue such actions in Nigeria.

“This is a humiliation ritual, and it must not be allowed to stand in a sane society,” the user wrote.

“@the_Lawrenz, you can’t humiliate people like this in the UK. Why then do you come to Nigeria to do the same? @ukhomeoffice, please look into this matter.

“An immigrant who comes home to humiliate his own countrymen this way shouldn’t be allowed in your country.”

Adeyanju announced the release on Friday, sharing a picture with Seun and his parents.

“Just secured the release of Lawrence victim, Seun from the police station in Lagos. Seun’s mum and dad in the picture were traumatised by the arrest,” he wrote.

Hours later, Alabi responded on X, stating he would not be intimidated by online bullying directed at him or his wife.

He issued a warning to anyone “sponsoring the harassment” to desist or face consequences from his family.
