The book is a comprehensive chronicle dedicated to the life and cultural impact of Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, the Fuji music star better known as KWAM 1.

Released in September, the publication meticulously traces the four-decade-long journey of K1, widely regarded as one of the most innovative and enduring figures in the Fuji genre.

Blending detailed storytelling with rich archival references and deep cultural analysis, the book examines K1 not merely as an entertainer, but as a veritable institution within the Nigerian music landscape.

It highlights his unique artistry, his inspirations, and his profound influence on the contemporary sound of Nigerian music, including the global Afrobeats phenomenon.

Explaining the inspiration behind the project, Taiwo stated that K1’s career embodies something far greater than music alone: it represents living history.

“Some people make hits. Some make headlines, while others make history. K1 De Ultimate has done all three. This book is my way of documenting the remarkable career of the subject, while also exploring how Fuji music became a mirror for society and a soundtrack for generations,” he said.

“The world currently loves Afrobeats, but to understand where it came from, you need to understand Fuji. And if you want to understand Fuji, you need to know K1. With this book, I want to preserve our music history, because memory is the first step towards legacy.”

An e-copy of the newly published title is now available for purchase.

Taiwo is a writer and culture practitioner whose work focuses on documenting and interpreting African pop culture for a global audience.
