‘Essence’, a hit song off ‘Made In Lagos’, Wizkid’s fourth album, has become the most searched song on Shazam, a US entertainment app.

Shazam is a popular music app which helps users to identify the name and title of a song.

The platform also provides details such as the artist’s name and title of the particular song playing at the time.

In a post on its Twitter page on Monday, the music application said the mid-tempo track has become the most ‘Shazamed’ song in the US.

“Big congrats to Wizkid! Essence is now the most shazamed song in the United States,” it wrote.

‘Essence’ is the 11th track of ‘Made In Lagos’ (MIL), Wizkid’s fourth studio album, which was released in October 2020.

The track has so far enjoyed widespread acceptance from music lovers and also became the first Nigerian song to crack the Billboard chart.

After four weeks, ‘Essence’ would record another leap, climbing by 23 spots on the Hot 100 to achieve 59th place.

Following a surprise remix with Justin Bieber, Canadian pop star, the hit track climbed to 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Barack Obama, the former president of the United States, had listed the hit song among his favourites for 2020.
