The 2019 edition of the Headies award held at the Eko Convention Centre, Victoria Island Lagos on Saturday night, with Teni, Falz winning big.

The award ceremony, which had earlier set the Nigerian Twittersphere agog, was later marred by the absence of some notable artistes in the country’s music industry.

This might not be unconnected to the fact that the award event clashed with ‘Starboy festival’, a concert staged by Wizkid at the 20,000-capacity O2 arena in London.

In June, the Afropop singer had announced that he will be headlining his own music festival in UK.

Some of the prominent artistes who were absent at the 13th edition of the Headies but spotted at ‘Starboy festival’ are Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage and Naira Marley, among others.

Their absence has generated a plethora of reactions on social media platforms, especially Twitter.

“Wizkid carried the whole Nigerian music industry to shut down London tonight. He’s given even the upcoming guys a platform to shine internationally at his #StarboyFest. He’s carrying his people with him to the top. That’s how a king does it. A Legend. A superstar. Our Starboy,” a user wrote.
