Ahmed Ololade, the Nigerian artiste better known as Asake, has revealed that he draws inspiration from Wizkid, the Grammy-winning singer.
The singers recently collaborated on ‘MMS’, the opening track of Asake’s newly-released third studio album, ‘Lungu Boy’.
In a note accompanying the song, Asake said he had long admired Wizkid and had been eager to work with him.
“It’s no secret that Wizkid is one of my music inspirations. As a young striving artiste in Lagos, I’ve been waiting for that right song so when the opportunity came it was a no-brainer,” he wrote.
The ‘Amapiano’ hitmaker also explained that ‘MMS’ stands for ‘Mr Money Sound’, adding that it encapsulates his music journey.
Asake first gained widespread recognition in 2020 with his breakout hit ‘Lady’.
In February 2022, he joined YBNL, the record label founded by Olamide, and has since released two successful studio albums: ‘Mr Money With The Vibes’ (2022) and ‘Work of Art’ (2023).
His talent has earned him numerous awards and nominations, including a nod in the ‘Best African Music Performance’ category at the 2024 Grammys for ‘Amapiano,’ his hit collaboration with Olamide.
Wizkid, who burst onto the scene with his 2010 hit ‘Holla at Your Boy’, is one of Africa’s most celebrated artistes.
His contributions to the music industry, including a Grammy Award for his work on Beyoncé’s ‘Brown Skin Girl’, have solidified his status as one of the most decorated African musicians of all time.
