A woman integral to R. Kelly‘s second federal trial has testified that he had sex with her before she turned 18.
R. Kelly got a 30-year sentence on June 29 after he was convicted of racketeering and sex trafficking in New York.
This is just as the singer is to face another trial in Chicago on 13 charges including child porn, obstruction of justice, and enticing minors into sexual activity.
Opening statements kicked off in R. Kelly’s Chicago federal court trial on August 17.
According to Chicago Suntimes, a witness who is now 37 and used the pseudonym “Jane” has testified that R. Kelly had sex with her “hundreds of times” before she turned 18.
In court on Thursday, she said the improper contact with Kelly began when she was 13.
Kelly’s lawyers had insisted the embattled singer is not “a monster” and deserves a fair trial.
Prosecutors alleged that Kelly made at least four videos with Jane, parts of which will be shown to the jurors.
Jane testified that Kelly had sex with her “uncountable times” starting when she was 15.
The jurors were shown photographs of her in high school to illustrate how young she appeared at the time.
In a two-hour testimony, Jane described a number of sexual encounters that Kelly allegedly recorded.
In one video, Kelly appeared to hand her money. Asked why, Jane said Kelly believed that, if it was released for some reason, he would claim she was a prostitute.
Two of Kelly’s former employees are also facing charges in this trial.
Derrel McDavid, his former business manager, is accused of helping Kelly fix the 2008 trial while Milton Brown is charged with receiving child pornography.
Both men have pleaded not guilty.
