Patrick Doyle, the renowned actor, has criticised Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), over the lavish chair he sat on during a recent media briefing.

On Thursday, Wike addressed journalists on various issues, including allegations of land allocation for his children.

However, attention shifted to the cream-coloured chair he occupied, which featured gold-trimmed wooden accents on its arms and edges.

Doyle, in a Facebook post, lambasted the minister for what he described as an unnecessary display of opulence, comparing the chair to a “throne”.

The ace actor questioned why a public official would need such an extravagant seat to address Nigerians, calling it a reflection of the “psychosis” and “delusion of grandeur” plaguing the country’s political class.

“If this isn’t a throne I wonder what is. Why on earth would a minister of the Nigerian state mount a throne to address Nigerians,” he wrote.

“This is a sign of the psychosis afflicting Nigerian political office holders, delusion of grandeur.”

The actor, a Delta state native, began his career as a broadcaster before transitioning into Nollywood in the 1990s.

He has worked with media giants like the Voice of Nigeria (VON), the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), and Silverbird TV.

Over the years, Doyle has been vocal on national issues, often calling out perceived excesses among public officials.

Wike has yet to respond to the criticism.
