Paulo Okoye, the showbiz promoter, says all Nigerians, including himself, are as guilty as Bobrisky of naira abuse.
Bobrisky, a self-proclaimed transgender and crossdresser, was arrested on Wednesday night in Lagos for defacing naira notes.
The crossdresser was arraigned on a six-count charge on Friday before the federal high court in Ikoyi, Lagos by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
While four of the charges are related to naira abuse, the remaining two counts involve alleged money laundering.
Bobrisky pleaded guilty to the first four counts bordering on naira abuse when the charge was read during a court sitting.
Abimbola Awogboro, the presiding judge, also struck out counts five and six which are money laundering allegations.
The crossdresser is expected to remain in the EFCC custody as the case was adjourned till April 9.
Reacting to Bobrisky’s trial via a post on his Instagram page, Paulo said all Nigerians would have to report themselves to the police.
He said everyone is guilty of abusing the naira notes.
The promoter pleaded with the EFCC on Bobrisky’s behalf, adding that the naira abuse would not happen again.
“If Bobrisky is guilty of naira, you know say over 2M Nigerians will just go to police station and report yourselves, including me (sic),” he wrote.
“Pls EFCC, forgive us. It is not going to happen again.”
Several celebrities have shared their opinions on the arrest of Bobrisky.
Alibaba, the comedian, said the arrest of the crossdresser “is not right”.
