The trailer for ‘Michael’, the highly anticipated biopic about the life and legacy of pop legend Michael Jackson, has been released.
Lionsgate unveiled the trailer on Thursday, announcing that the film will hit cinemas and IMAX screens worldwide on April 24, 2026.
The film, directed by Antoine Fuqua, had initially been slated for April 2025 release. It was later moved to October 2025 before reshoots delayed it once again. Filming was completed in May 2024.
The trailer offers a glimpse of Jaafar Jackson, the late musician’s nephew and son of Jermaine Jackson, embodying his uncle’s energy, vocals, and signature moves.
Clad in iconic costumes and wide-brimmed hats, Jaafar channels Michael’s stage presence in electrifying dance sequences that evoke the star’s unforgettable performances.
According to Lionsgate, ‘Michael’ is “the cinematic portrayal of the life and legacy of one of the most influential artists the world has ever known”.
“The film tells the story of Michael Jackson’s life beyond the music, tracing his journey from the discovery of his extraordinary talent as the lead of the Jackson Five, to the visionary artist whose creative ambition fueled a relentless pursuit to become the biggest entertainer in the world,” the synopsis reads.
“Highlighting both his life off-stage and some of the most iconic performances from his early solo career, the film gives audiences a front-row seat to Michael Jackson as never before. This is where his story begins.”
’Michael’ is produced by Graham King, John Branca, and John McClain, with a screenplay written by John Logan.
The biopic also stars Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson, Michael’s father and manager; Nia Long as his mother, Katherine Jackson; Kat Graham as his fellow Motown star; and Miles Teller as his lawyer and manager.
Michael achieved global fame for his contributions to the entertainment industry.
His iconic projects include ‘Thriller’, which remains one of the best-selling albums of all time. He also popularised signature dance moves like the moonwalk.
The singer died from cardiac arrest caused by a drug overdose in June 2009.
