Folake Olowofoyeku, a British-Nigerian actress, would be playing the lead role alongside Billy Gardell, American stand-up comedian, in ‘Bob Hearts Abishola’.

The newly announced CBS comedy show sees Olowofoyeku star as Abishola, a no-nonsense and work-absorbed nurse who is portrayed quintessentially of Nigerian immigrants.

Written and executive-produced by ‘Big Bang Theory’s’ Chuck Lorre, the show follows the story of Bob, an American who falls in love with his nurse after a heart attack.

Abishola, who lives in her uncle’s small apartment with her son, then remains preoccupied with working and staying out of trouble.

Asides Abishola’s hilariously tough demeanor, sarcastic wits and stereotypical accent, the relatable family dynamics and sociocultural differences typical of the African and European cultures are also portrayed.

“From award-winning creator, executive producer and writer Chuck Lorre, Bob Hearts Abishola is a love story about a middle-aged compression sock businessman from Detroit,” CBS said on its website.

“He unexpectedly falls for his cardiac nurse, a Nigerian immigrant, while recovering from a heart attack and sets his sights on winning her over.

“Undaunted by Abishola’s lack of initial interest or the vast differences in their backgrounds, Bob is determined to win Abishola’s heart, in this comedic examination of immigrant life in America.”

The show features Folake Olowofoyeku, Christine Ebersole, Matt Jones, Maribeth, Monroe, Shola Adewusi, Barry Shabaka Henley and Travis Wolfe and will premiere in September 2019.
