Waje, Nigerian R&B singer, says she earlier considered quitting music due to the frustration she endured at the time.

The music star, whose real name is Aituaje Iruobe, brought the revelation to light on the latest edition of #WithChude.

In 2019, TheCable Lifestyle reported how Waje had stressed the need to end her music career.

Reflecting on what happened, the 40-year-old singer said she had gone for a contest in 2013 but got disappointed when she was asked not to use a live band.

Waje said although she eventually managed to put up a good performance at the event, she was angry that the organisers allowed other artistes to use live bands.

“I had told myself I was going to quit music and that was a reaction. I was reacting to what happened to me,” she said.

“So I was upset that they put up that kind of standard against me and I accepted it. That was the first thing wrong, I accepted it. Because it’s a choice, you understand, so I accepted it. And then I got the gig.

“I started performing and I wasn’t really feeling myself, even though everything seemed okay. You know it’s one thing that triggers it.”

She explained that her frustration took another dimension after the event as people took to Twitter to mock her appearance.

“I tried my best. I was fine with my performance, then I started trending on Twitter. People were throwing shades, nobody said anything about my performance strangely,” she added.

“Everybody said stuff about how I looked: Someone said I looked like a DStv remote control. Somebody said I looked like… like they went in. And the truth is, I still have that picture till today, I looked really good, not bad!”
