Nigerians have taken to Twitter to react to a video that surfaced online of Waje, a Nigerian songstress; where she revealed she was considering quitting music as it is not working for her anymore.
In the now-trending video uploaded on her YouTube page titled ‘Music is not for me’, the artiste, whose real name is Aijuaje Iruobe, expressed her frustrations concerning returns on investments in her last album, which she thinks is one of the best that has come out of Nigeria.
The viral video has since sparked a flurry of reactions from fans and critics on the Nigerian Twitter space.
While a segment of users visited the social media platform to offer words of advice, sympathy, encouragement, others registered derision to the singer’s plight.
”This is a cry for help; Waje, a single mother is putting a daughter through university all by herself. She is talented,” said one Twitter user.
“Waje is broken maybe even depressed.
“Let’s not allow it to be too late (God forbid) Twitter has made it happen for less deserving people.”
Here are some comments from Nigerians on Twitter:
Nigerians are Nigeria's problem.
Waje is struggling with her music and she's just one out of the many creatives who wanna give up; Asa was lucky, she got out. But u see,Nigerians dn't have that range musically so much that its jaga jaga music we prefer just as our country is.— ToughCookie (@NneStainless) March 25, 2019
If you're looking from outside, you'll assume this entertainment business is easy. Waje is right, the sheer amount of capital you have to invest in promotions is not for the fainthearted. You could be the most talented there is but without huge capital investment you'll struggle

How many of you knew that Duncan Mighty released 3 albums after 2010's "Ahamefuna"? PH 1st son's music was on the brink of collapse until that miraculous moment with Wizkid. Maybe what Waje needs now is a high profile collabo that can resurrect her dying music. #MondayMotivation

WAJE: I no get money for publicity
This video shows that Waje is going through a lot but no, some people didn't notice the pain, they just want to talk.

Sauces once told me that Psquare waited for Waje for almost a month to shoot "Do Me" video but her friends told her not to because Psquare were Bush guys. That song changed their lives. I wonder how big Waje would have been today if she had appeared in that video?

Waje should do what other musicians do, get signed under a label and focus on producing good music. They do the marketing at their expense and both party share the returns.
Please Waje, there is no excuse for failure.

Waje says she is broke! She lives on Chevron Drive probably her own house… schoolfees around there is insanely crazy but worth it… I can advise we all mind our businesses. Priorities & Drive are totally different so also her BROKE and your BROKE can never be the same BROKE https://t.co/JslD1NxYxn

The problem is that:
1. There's no market really for artistes like Waje, Bez, Timi Dakolo and the like in Nigeria… At least not yet.
2. Many artistes/ management label knows music but don't know the business part of it which is almost important than d music itself.

Nigerians: We want well thought out lyrics, great vocals, well written songs & excellent live performances with a band and not lip synching.
So why are people like Brymo,Waje,Omawunmi,Bez & co struggling for any attention?Thought we claim there is a demand for what they offer?
— Babanla (@biolakazeem) March 25, 2019
Same Nigerians who demand "good music" & claim Wizkid & co should perform live music for them are the same ones who unlook the unbelievably talented Waje to the point that she is considering quitting music. Most people just talk. Most times, they don't even know what they want.

The good thing is Waje will eventually come back stronger. She should do it on her terms. Lighthouse Family are about to release an album after close to 20 years if I'm not mistaken. Talent doesn't die

Nigerian blogs are reaping our artists off big time. Nigerian artists need to come together and restructure this industry. Imagine is blogs pay these artists for the songs they upload on their blogs.
Even though I dont listen to her songs that much, but I rili love Waje. https://t.co/NmzkQrjtYE— ZEUS (@itzbasito) March 25, 2019
Music Industry is real business, It involve good funds and consistency.
I feel sorry for Waje pic.twitter.com/G4cCri8RiK— Dibi's Media (@xatbiodam) March 25, 2019
Truth is if every Nigerian will put up a video on their failed projects like Waje, we will all be consoling ourselves.
You can pity her but……
Moral lesson: Cry your Cry. God help us all.

I pray for her but the truth is that, all that stuffs she enumerated is wat every body is going thru. It's called LIFE! I could do with some financial assistance too #Waje https://t.co/mkHYcGf8Z9
— Abiodun Fred (@abiodunfred) March 25, 2019
Lol, you people should stop pitying Waje. Your broke and her broke are not the same thing.
Also, she's speaking, like many do, about an investment that is seemingly not yielding as much as the hype surrounding it…that's also not a new thing.
— Deji Faremi (@deejayfaremi) March 25, 2019
WTF? why blame this on Nigerians? The country that has the biggest music industry in Africa, where new stars spring up on a daily basis. Waje’s inability to compete anymore is no one’s fault. You can’t force her music into people’s ears.
— Lanre 🇳🇬🇺🇸 (@Cappy_son) March 24, 2019
Truth is that unlike in PDP era when a growing middle-class enjoyed Music genre by the likes of Bez, Timi, Waje & even Lagbaja, things have changed now. Those middle-class folks have lost jobs, struggling.
When an Olamide is singing "Poverty die die", he knows What's up. https://t.co/JVwtVF5Ioo
