On Monday, the comedian cum singer, who is promoting his new song ‘Short Skirt’, shared a skit featuring Baba Fryo via his Instagram page.

In the skit, Nasboi, while discussing with fellow comedian MC Lively, talked about his plan to ask Baba Fryo to call him out for lyrics theft.

In ‘Short Skirt’, the skit maker appeared to have taken some lines from Baba Fryo’s 1990s hit ‘Denge Pose’.

The comedian revealed that his stunt was a calculated attempt to demonstrate the power of controversy in capturing public attention.

Nasboi added that his goal was to leverage the controversy to promote ‘Short Skirt’ and increase the song’s visibility and streams.

“You know Nigeria bloggers like bad news. I have an idea. Do you know this music ‘Denge Pose’, it’s a legend’s song. His name is Baba Fryo,” he told MC Lively.

“I want you to find this man, give a good pay for him to call me out online for using his music line. If he calls me out, people will be curious about the song. They will start listening to my music then it will go viral.

“…. Watch, from tomorrow blogs will start posting it.”

Within minutes, Baby Fryo arrived at the scene, and after a quick debriefing, he was given clear and concise instructions on how to proceed.

As planned, the ace singer called out the comedian for taking lyrics from his hit song ‘Denge Pose’ without his permission on Tuesday. He also demanded proper credit and compensation for his work.

In the now-viral footage, the ace singer warned Nasboi to contact him or else he would take legal action.

“Nigerians, I greet una. This thing don dey happen e don tey and me I no dey happy with am. So now I want to take action,” he said in Pidgin English.

“You see that song wey Nasboi sings about short skirts, my line dey inside the music, my song ‘Denge Pose’ dey there. So, anybody wey know Nasboi make he tell am make he reach out to me before water go pass garri.

“Because as I dey like this, I no dey happy and this one must be the last time wey anybody go use or copy ny music without telling me. So, make you tell am make he reach me before I take action.”

The inspiration behind the skit remains unknown but intellectual property theft is punishable in any stable society.

Intellectual property theft is when someone steals an idea, creative expression, or invention from an individual or a company.
