The management of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) says the institution will resume academic activities for the 2019/2020 session on January 25.
Olufadeke Akinleye, the institution’s head of media unit, broke the news on Wednesday.
The institution, however, said academic activities would be held online for the time being due to the surging cases of COVID-19 in the country.
According to the revised academic calendar of the institution, lectures would end on March 5 for the first semester.
The calendar also stated that the first semester examination would begin on March 15 and end on April 1 while students are expected to resume for the second semester on April 12.
It added that the varsity’s senate would sit to deliberate on students’ first semester results on April 28.
The development comes as the institution fixed February 23-25 as the new date for its 2019 convocation which was supposed to hold in March last year but was postponed amid controversies.
It also comes amid debate over whether or not varsities should be allowed to resume as the country grapples with a second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.
The National Universities Commission (NUC) had earlier directed vice-chancellors of universities to commence academic activities on January 18.
But the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) had argued that it was unsafe to resume work, citing the inadequate measures put in place to checkmate the spread of COVID-19 at various varsities.
