The management of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) has announced February 1 as the resumption date for the 2019/2020 academic session.

NAN reports that Benedicta Ehanire, the varsity’s public relations officer, broke the news in a statement issued in Benin, Edo state, on Tuesday.

According to her, students are expected to come into the halls of residence on the resumption day, adding that both physical and online lectures will commence immediately.

Ehanire said only students with official receipts of payment of school charges in sessions pertaining to them and had successfully filled, submitted and printed the on-line questionnaire required of them would be allowed into halls of residence and lecture theatres.

She added that students residing in the school hostels were expected to have at least five pieces of washable face mask and two 5mls vials of hand sanitiser each.

Ehanire also said that members of staff and students were to constantly wear their face masks, as the COVID-19 protocol would be strictly enforced by the university.

“The vice-chancellor of the university, Prof. Lilian Salami, on behalf of management, looks forward to welcoming all students to campus for a more fulfilling academic session,” the statement read.

The development comes months after varsities across the country were shut due to the coronavirus pandemic and strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
