Harvey Funmilayo, a UK-based Nigerian doctor and Twitter influencer, has demanded £10,000 (about N4.8 million) for damages and threatened legal action over the sexual assault allegations brought against him.
On Tuesday, a lady, who identified with the Twitter handle (Bola Aseyan), had taken to the microblogging platform wherein she made a number of inexplicit claims, narrating her encounter with the medical practitioner.
The lady, who is a also doctor and ex-lover of Funmilayo, accused the Twitter influencer of abusing her both sexually and emotionally over the course of their one-year relationship.
“I have proof of all this. Now you are calling people to call me? You are calling frantically. When you were sexually and emotionally abusing, you didn’t know it would resort to this,” she wrote in part.
“Because Bola doesn’t air dirty laundry, Bola is private, you think I’m stupid? Your favourite influencer has sexually and emotionally abused me for so long, and I’ve been hiding it.”
Shortly after her tweets had gotten a lot of people talking on Twitter, Fumilayo would issue a long rebuttal, narrating how she had moved to the UK after two visa applications, at which time they both had sexual intercourse.
According to him, they both got drunk while cohabiting, had sex, and regretted it due to the tension that had started welling up in their relationship, which Funmilayo claimed started back in 2019.
Still unsatisfied, the doctor, who appeared to have engaged the services of his lawyers, took to his Twitter page on Friday to share a writ which he claimed to have sent to his accuser, demanding £10,000 to compensate for what he termed “damages.”
The writ, which was filed by Universe Solicitors, a law firm in London on July 2, demanded that the accuser produces a letter of apology retracting the claims and dismissing them as defamation.
It also demanded that the tweets wherein the allegations were made be taken down and that she undertakes to desist from making any other defamatory comment against the accused doctor.

“A defamatory statement is published where it’s read, heard, or seen. As the false statements were made whilst you were in the UK, the English courts will have jurisdiction to hear the claim,” it read.
“Please be informed that, should you fail to comply with the above steps within the next seven days, we hold clear instructions to commence legal procedures forthwith.
“We reserve the right to produce this letter in court in relation to the costs under CPR 44.3. And we strongly suggest you seek independent legal advice.”
On June 30, Bola had also said she had filed filed charges against Funmilayo. She added that the police authorities are aware of the case.
