‘A Tribe Called Judah’, a movie produced by Funke Akindele, is set to hit cinemas across the country on December 15.

The star-studded movie premiere, themed ‘Costume Party Extravaganza’, was held on Sunday at the Filmhouse Cinema IMAX, Lekki Phase 1 in Lagos.

The red carpet witnessed the presence of some of the crème de la crème of Nollywood, music stars, influencers and key industry players.

The celebrities in attendance include Cute Abiola, Broda Shaggi, Sydney Stalker, Officer Woo, Woli-Agba, Odunlade Adekola, and Denrele Edun.

Others are Ademola, Ini Edo, Juliana Olayode, Deyemi Okanlawon and Ruth Kadiri.

The movie, directed by Adeoluwa Owu, popularly known as Captain Degzy, explores the story of a woman who has five sons from five different men, all belonging to different tribes.

The boys decided to rob a mall with the help of their mother. However, on getting there, they were faced with armed robbers.

The movie features Funke Akindele, Boma Akpore, Ebele Okaro-Onyiuke, Etinosa Idemudia, Fathia Balogun, Jide Kene Achufusi, Nse Ikpe Etim, and Olayode Juliana.

Other cast members are Olumide Oworu, Paschaline Alex, Timini Egbuson, Tobi Makinde, Uzor Arukwe, Yvonne Jegede, and Genovevah Umeh.

Speaking about the movie, Akindele described it as a “story so dear to my heart and has a part of my late mum in it”.

The filmmaker said the movie would resonate with everyone because the story showcased “the reality and struggles of Africans”.

“It represents the struggles faced by many single parents and mothers in society,” she said in a statement.

“There’s often stigmatisation surrounding women who have children out of wedlock. They get labelled with unprintable names with the assumption that their children will amount to nothing. 

“The film also sheds some focus on rebellious children. When they start out being rebellious, their families tend to give up on them.

“However, it is important to look for something special in your child; help them nurture their talents, and they will become great with it.

“I love to be realistic and objective when casting. You have to be talented to work with me and I admire disciplined actors.

“I had the pleasure of working with an exceptional cast for this movie. I set out looking for actors that would give me what I wanted, and I got the best.”
