Toyin Abraham, Nollywood actress and movie producer, has joined forces with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic in the country.
The NCDC took to its Twitter page on Thursday to post a video of the actress using Yoruba to sensitize members of the public on the importance of regular hand washing in combating COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the coronavirus.
“I know most of us are terrified by the coronavirus and misinformation on how to stay safe is not helping us much,” she said in the less than one-minute visuals.
“We are all wondering how we can guarantee the health of the ones around us and ourselves and misinformation on how to stay safe is not helping us much. There are many recommended ways of staying safe during these times of COVID-19.
“Washing my hands as many times as possible with water and soap is very important because 80% of communicable diseases are transferred by touch.”
According to the NCDC, the video was in partnership with other agencies including the United Nations and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Nigeria.

The movie star had also, in several posts on her social media pages, shared basic safety tips developed by the NCDC, including use of face masks to avoid getting infected with the virus.

The collaboration is coming days after the agency had announced it never engaged Funke Akindele, an actress, as a brand ambassador for its COVID-19 response as speculated in some quarters.
The announcement had also come amid controversies trailing the arrest and consequent sentencing of the actress alongside her husband for holding a house party which violates government’s social distancing directives.
