Tory Lanez, the Canadian hip-hop artiste, has been hospitalised after a violent attack at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi.
The 32-year-old rapper is currently serving a 10-year sentence for the 2020 shooting of rapper Megan Thee Stallion.
A statement posted on his Instagram page on Tuesday revealed Lanez was “stabbed 14 times” during the assault, sustaining severe injuries including “seven stab wounds to his back, 4 to his torso, 2 to the back of his head, and 1 to the left side of his face”.
The attack, according to the statement, caused both of his lungs to collapse, requiring immediate medical intervention.
It added that Lanez was placed on a breathing apparatus but has since stabilised and is now breathing on his own.
“Tory was stabbed 14 times – including 7 wounds to his back, 4 to his torso, 2 to the back of his head, and 1 to the left side of his face. Both of his lungs collapsed, and he was placed on a breathing apparatus,” the post reads.
“He is now breathing on his own. Despite being in pain, he is talking normally, in good spirits, and deeply thankful to God that he is pulling through. He also wants to thank everyone for their continued prayers and support.”

The incident occurred Monday morning in a prison housing unit, as confirmed by Pedro Calderón Michel, a spokesperson for California’s Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
“The prison staff began first aid before Lanez was taken to a local medical facility for further treatment. An investigation is underway into the stabbing,” Michel told the BBC.
