‘Dark October’, a film on the infamous Aluu Four lynching of 2012, is set to premiere on Netflix.
The movie, directed by the filmmaker Toka McBaror, is scheduled for a Netflix debut on February 3, 2023.
The Aluu Four conflict was a necklace lynching that involved four young men (Ugonna Obuzor, Lloyd Toku, Chiadika Biringa, and Tekena Elkanah), who were all students of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT).
They were lynched after being falsely accused of theft in the Aluu community, Obio/Akpor LGA on October 5, 2012.
The tragic event shook the nation and brought attention to the issue of extrajudicial killings in Nigeria.
The film ‘Dark October’ is based on the story of the four victims and the events leading up to their tragic deaths.
It explores the aftermath of the lynching and the impact it had on their families, friends, and the community.
Linda Ikeji, the producer of the film, described its storyline as an “important” one that “needs to be told”.
“We hope it will spark a conversation about extrajudicial killings and ensuring justice for all,” she added.
Moses Babatope and Kene Okwuosa, FilmOne founders, said: “We hope this film will help to bring about change.
“It’s a reminder of the importance of holding those in power accountable and the need for justice for all.”
