‘Water and Garri’, the highly-anticipated film by Tiwa Savage, the Nigerian singer, has premiered on Prime Video, the streaming platform.
The movie, directed by Meji Alabi, premiered on the streaming platform on Friday.
‘Water and Garri’ tells the story of Aisha, an ambitious fashion designer, who returned to her native country — following the loss of a family member — after being away for 10 years in the United States.
She had to learn to live with her scars and confront the guilt she left behind while reconnecting with family, old friends, and her past love.
The movie features several movie stars including Jemima Osunde, Mike Afolarin, and Andrew Bunting.
Speaking at the movie premiere in Lekki, Lagos, Savage revealed that her dream has always been to become an actor.
“It has been a dream of mine and actually. Film and acting were my first love before even music so I hope to inspire people, just be an inspiration to many different talents out there, you know, to inspire people and let them know we can we can wear different hats and we can execute them excellently,” she said.
“I have a great team and I feel like you know we have been working on balance and Vannessa Amadi-Ogbonna. And as you know, even to balance motherhood as well is a lot as well. So, for me, having the right people would help you make the right decisions. We do not always have to answer or accept every offer but we accept the ones that make sense.”
On his part, Alabi said: “We decided, let us do something different than the visual album we had in mind earlier”.
“Let us make a film. For me, it was the perfect progression of our relationship considering how many music videos and how much we have already done together to see how we can take it to the next level.”
Savage recently revealed that she took classes for two months to perfect her role in ‘Water and Garri’.
She also released the official track of the movie on Friday.
