The nomination list for the 2023 Oscars was recently released ahead of the annual award ceremony on March 12.

‘Till’ did not make the nominees in the best director category, a reality Chukwu reacted to via her Instagram page.

She claimed that Hollywood has a history of “unabashed misogyny towards black women” after being snubbed.

“We live in a world and work in industries that are so aggressively committed to upholding whiteness and perpetuating unabashed misogyny towards Black women,” the film director wrote, alongside a picture of the director with civil rights activist Myrlie Evers-Williams.

“And yet. I am forever in gratitude for the greatest lesson of my life.

“Regardless of any challenges or obstacles, I will always have the power to cultivate my own joy, and it is this joy that will continue to be one of my greatest forms of resistance.”

Evers-Williams is portrayed in ‘Till’ by actor Jayme Lawson.

The movie was produced by Beauchamp, Reilly, and Whoopi Goldberg.

It is based on the true story of Mamie Till-Bradley, an educator and activist who pursued justice after the murder of her 14-year-old son Emmett in 1955.
