Innocent Idibia, the Nigerian singer better known as 2Baba, says the term “people of colour” is illogical to him.
The music star spoke on issues around racism in an Instagram post on Tuesday.
People of colour is a term used to describe any person who is not considered white or who is of a mixed race.
In the post, 2Baba said using the term is “total bullshit to me”.
He argued that using the term for people who are not whites is discriminatory.
“Unless we’re all saying that white is not a colour. The idea of saying people of colour is total bullshit to me. #2Babarandomthoughts,” he wrote.
Racism is a major issue across the globe and has been condemned by several celebrities in the past.
Conversations around it has intensified since the death of George Floyd, a black American.
Floyd died on May 25, 2020 after being pinned down by the neck for nearly nine minutes by a Minnesota police officer, during an arrest.
Reacting to Floyd’s death, Anthony Joshua, the British-Nigerian boxer, described racism as a “pandemic”.
2Baba has established himself as a popular name in the global music industry.
He has also been in the news in recent times over his marriage to Annie Idibia, the actress.
