TG Omori, the Nigerian music video director, says he only started making profits from his craft in 2023.
In a recent Q&A session on X, a fan had asked Omori how he properly budgets for his video session, including his profit margin.
“How do you know how much the entire production would cost and still properly infuse your profit so as not to undercharge or overcharge?” the X user asked.
Reacting to the question in an X post, the video director revealed that he was in production debt for about five years till he started making profits in 2023.
He added that budget constraints and unexpected costs made him lose money, sometimes borrowing more to cover previous debts.
Omori added that he was able to pay off his debts because of the income generated by his personal brand and public image, while highlighting how tough it is for creatives.
“I only started making profits in 2023. Every time I’m losing money from pick-up shoots or something! Budget is never enough; in fact, I was in bad production debt for 5 years,” he wrote.
“Just had to live with it, I was paying up and taking more to cover up. I was only able to pay it off through the money my brand and personality were fetching me. It’s a tough life for creatives. Hug a creative beside you today.”
Born in Cross-River state, Omori grew up in the Agungi area of Lagos state. He started his career at age 20 after graduating from the PEFTI Film Institute. He has won numerous awards for his craft.
