Tems, the Afrobeats star, has reacted to the criticism trailing her outfit to the 2023 Oscar Awards.

The songstress was the cynosure of all eyes on Sunday night at the Dolby Theatre, Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles, after some fans complained that her dress was too much.

The Nigerian singer graced the event in a lush white gown from Lever Couture with a particularly obstructive headpiece.

The 27-year-old was at the event on the back of her contribution to Rihanna‘s ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever‘ track ‘Lift Me Up‘, which got an Oscar nomination.

Although the Barbadian singer lost her category, Tems stole the show after her white headpiece literally took up space.

The puffy white gown that she wrapped around the back of her head seemed uncomfortable for the guest seated behind Tems.

Fans and critics had taken to Twitter to register their different opinions, with some saying her dress was actually blocking people’s view at the ceremony.

“Imagine waiting your whole life to be at the Oscars and you end up sitting behind a stratus cloud,” a user wrote.

Reacting to the backlash, Tems shared several photos from the event while using the caption “oops”.

Oops, according to this online dictionary, is used to show recognition of a mistake or minor accident, often as part of an apology.

Tems has continued her impressive run in the global music landscape with a series of awards and collaborations with heavyweights in the industry.

In February, the songstress snagged her first Grammy award for her role in ‘Wait for U’, the 2022 hit song by Future featuring Drake.
