Tekno Miles, Afro-pop singer, has been disqualified from the 2016 Headies ‘Next Rated’ award category.
The category was the only one for which the ‘Pana’ singer earned a nomination.
This was made known in a letter signed by Ayo Animashaun, executive producer, Smooth Productions.
According to the letter made available to NET, Tekno failed to attend the expected undertakings of artistes nominated in the ‘Next Rated’ category.
The category recognises the efforts and strides of artistes deemed to be on the rise and possessing of immense promise.
Some of the promotional activities which Tekno was mandated to partake in, were photoshoots, interviews and pre-award publicity.
The letter which was addressed to Tekno’s record label, read in part: “Kindly consider this a follow up to our earlier letter sent to you on December 15, 2016.
“Tekno has unfortunately not made himself available for any of the mandatory activities, hence the committee’s decision to effectively withdraw his nomination for this year.
“As communicated in our last letter to you, the window of participation officially closed on Friday, December 16.”
Owing to Tekno’s disqualification, Ycee, Aramide, Humblesmith and Mr. Eazi will square up to each other for the Next Rated category.
The 2016 Headies award will hold Thursday, December 22 at the Eko Hotel Convention Centre, Lagos.
