Sushant Singh Rajput, a Bollywood star, was found dead at his Mumbai home on Sunday, a local media reports.
According to Hindustantimes, the 34-year-old actor was found hanging in his apartment in Bandra with police saying that he died by suicide.
The police added that the circumstance surrounding his death is being investigated.
“Sushant Singh Rajput has committed suicide, Mumbai Police is investigating,” Pranay Ashok, spokesperson of the Mumbai police, was quoted to have said.
The talented film star made his Bollywood debut in 2013 in ‘Kai Po Che,’ according to the film site IMDb. The film was directed by Abhishek Kapoor and based on a novel by Chetan Bhagat.
The family of the deceased also released a statement requesting privacy “at the moment of grief.”
“It pains us to share that Sushant Singh Rajput is no longer with us. We request his fans to keep him in their thoughts and celebrate his life, and his work like they have done so far. We request the media to help us maintain privacy at this moment of grief,” read the statement by Rajput’s team.
Quite a number of prominent persons including fans of the deceased have taken to social media platforms to pay their last respect.
Narendra Modi, Indian prime minister, also took to his Twitter page to pay his condolences.
“Sushant Singh Rajput…a bright young actor gone too soon. He excelled on TV and in films. His rise in the world of entertainment inspired many and he leaves behind several memorable performances. Shocked by his passing away. My thoughts are with his family and fans. Om Shanti,” he wrote.
