A Brooklyn stuntwoman, identified as Joi Harris, was killed in a motorcycle accident during stunt on the set of Deadpool 2 in Vancouver, Canada.
Harris, who was a professional motorcycle racer, was performing a stunt for Zazie Beetz, who played the superhero in the sequel to the 2016 Marvel movie that featured Ryan Reynolds.
“A stunt driver has died on the set of Deadpool during a stunt on a motorcycle. VPD & @WorkSafeBC investigators are at the scene,” Vancouver Police tweeted on Monday.
The incident took place near Jack Poole Plaza. The stunt involved riding over ramps and down the steps of the plaza.
“We are deeply saddened by the accident that occurred on the set of Deadpool 2 this morning,” 20th Century Fox, the studio behind Deadpool 2, said in a statement.
“Our hearts and prayers are with the family, friends and colleagues of our crew member during this difficult time.”
Nathan Kramchynski, who works on the seventh floor of Shaw Tower where the shot was being filmed, said there had been two successful rehearsals of the stunt before the accident occurred.
Ryan Reynolds, lead cast member, said on Twitter that every member of the team is “shocked, devastated and heartbroken”.
