Stella Damasus, the award-winning Nigerian actress, has announced the passing of her mother.
The movie star disclosed this in an Instagram post on Monday. The 43-year-old actress also accompanied the post with a picture of her late mother.
“This is not goodbye, it’s till we meet again. Love you forever mummy,” she wrote.
The Benin-born actress made her Nollywood debut in ‘Abused’, a 1992 film. She gained prominence for her role in ‘Breaking Point’, a hit movie produced by Emem Isong.
She has continued to enjoy fame since then and has snagged numerous awards.
Damasus had earlier revealed that her foray into the movie industry was by “accident”. She had said she initially set out to become a singer.
The film star had also disclosed that she earned N10,000 for her first movie role in Nollywood.
“My first movie was ’95 into ’96, that’s the film ‘Abused’. I had no idea what I was doing but I went for it. I got it by accident. I didn’t plan to be an actor. I thought I was going to be a singer because I worked in a studio,” she had said.
“A friend came to my house and said they were going for an audition. I lived in Surulere and she was going to Ikeja. I went with her…
“Three weeks later, they called to inform me I got the part. My pay was N10,000. My studio salary then was N700.”
