Don’t fret, all hope it’s lost. By applying certain hacks and principles in your day, you’ll come to find a work day enjoyable at its peak, or at least bearable at its minimum.

Here are a few tips to help you keep your energy up and increase your productivity in the workplace.

Wake up, work out

A quick work out in the morning is a great way to get your blood flowing which will keep you going all day. So, go for a quick run around your neighborhood, press ups or sit-ups in your bedroom, anything to get your heart racing.

An apple a day

Eating healthy is crucial to your mental health and your attitude towards work. You should eat your most hearty meal in the morning, when you need the most energy, and continue eating healthily throughout the day to avoid crashes during your productive time.

Get up and move

Sometimes we just need to get out. It doesn’t matter if the weather is hot, cold or rainy, getting up from that chair and computer can rejuvenate your body and your mind.

Leave the smartphone behind as well. Stretch, breathe and take in the outdoors to feel refreshed and awake. Eating lunch away from your desk can help, too.

Remove all personal grudges

All that emotional baggage take their toll on you. Whether it is anger you feel towards a co-worker or even someone who is distant from work, the emotions can absorb energy and be distracting.

Humour

Laughter is a natural energiser. The endorphins from chuckling are as good for you as a solid workout. Go on Instagram or YouTube for some funny videos, have a laugh with some colleagues. You’ll lighten the atmosphere all around and help everyone feel good about the rest of the day.

Avoid eye strain

Ever get eye pain or headaches at the end of the day but aren’t really sure why? It’s probably from staring at that computer all day. The aforementioned breaks can help combat eye strain quite a bit.

Be friends with your co-workers

Co-workers can be distracting and annoying, but being friends with them can actually make work a lot less stressful.

In fact, one study found that people who were friendly with their co-workers actually lived longer. Even if we’re just talking productivity, knowing which co-workers will help you in a bind is incredibly useful, and easy to do with a single email.

Phone a friend

Nothing perks up one’s day more than time with a close friend. Whether it’s quick catch up, or a chance to vent some of the day’s frustrations, this short, fun reconnect will recharge your batteries and give you the support required to battle any tough day. The best part is that you will give your friend the same benefit.

Take a power nap

Of course, you don’t want to be seen as sleeping on the job, but studies have shown that a brief power nap can help revitalise you for the whole day.

Some employers actually set up a designated ‘nap room’ for employees.

Go home

In conclusion, more hours does not equal more work.

Overworking will only hurt your productivity, your health, and your income (since you’re working more hours for the same pay).

The key? Stop working and go home at night.
