Spotify, a Swedish audio streaming and media services provider, has announced the expansion of its operations to over 80 new countries including Nigeria and Ghana.
The streaming giant broke the news in a statement released on its website on Monday.
According to the company, other African countries included in its expansion are Angola, Benin, Kenya, Namibia, Rwanda, Kenya, Zambia, Gabon and Zimbabwe.
The development comes as the company also announced the addition of 36 new languages to the existing ones on the platform.
In the statement, the company said the initiatives were informed by its commitment to building a “borderless audio ecosystem.”

It added that the new countries of operation constitute over one billion potential listeners on the platform.
“As part of our ongoing commitment to building a truly borderless audio ecosystem— connecting creators, listeners, and content—Spotify is embarking on a sweeping expansion that will introduce the world’s most popular audio streaming subscription service available to more than a billion people in 80+ new markets around the world, and add 36 languages to our platform. These moves represent Spotify’s broadest market expansion to date,” it said.

“By reaching even more countries across Asia, Africa, the Caribbean, Europe, and Latin America, we’re giving millions of new creators the opportunity to create, discover, and build a career in audio creation—and giving a billion new fans the opportunity to hear it.”
But on Tuesday evening, Spotify began to trend on the Nigerian Twittersphere as some prominent singers started to promote their songs on the streaming platform.

The streaming platform is also currently available for installation in Nigeria on Google play.
