Speed Darlington, the Nigerian rapper, has been arrested while performing at a show in Owerri, Imo state.
Deji Adeyanju, the human rights lawyer, announced the singer’s arrest in post via X on Wednesday.
“Our client Speed Darlington a.k.a AKPI has been arrested by the Nigerian police in Owerri at his show upon return to Nigeria,” he said.
In a follow-up tweet, Adeyanju disclosed that Grammy winner Burna Boy is “behind the harassment of Speed Darlington by the police”.
“Burna Boy is someone who has been singing against oppression and forming junior Fela but now oppressing Akpi,” the lawyer added.
In October, the content creator was detained by the police in Abuja after a formal complaint filed by Burna Boy.
He was, however, released on bail after five days in police detention.
Darlington had taunted Burna Boy over his affiliation with the embattled US rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ who is facing multiple charges for sexual exploitation and human trafficking.
He also asked Burna Boy to explain how he won the Grammy award for his album ‘Twice As Tall’ — a project executive produced by Diddy. He claimed there was a sexual relationship between the duo.
Queen, Darlington’s mother, previously begged Burna Boy to “temper justice with mercy”.
