Jide Kosoko has shared his thoughts on the contentious issue of sex-for-role in the Nigerian movie industry.
In a snippet of an unreleased episode of the Honest Bunch podcast, the 71-year-old Nollywood veteran argued that no individual can be coerced into engaging in sexual activities in exchange for roles.
Kosoko stressed the importance of personal boundaries, adding that individuals have the right to decline unwanted advances.
The ace actor also claimed some actresses enter the industry with the misguided belief that they can advance their careers by engaging in sexual favours.
“If I said I need you to come and warm my bed so that I can give you this role, and you said, no, you don’t want to, they cannot force you to do it. If someone introduces something to you and you are not interested, say no,” he said.
“All these sex-for-role things, forget about it. I know some ladies that equally come into the industry with the determination that, by the time ‘I sleep with this and sleep with that, I will get my name’.”
The veteran, who has appeared in over 100 movies since beginning his career as a child actor in 1964, is revered for his contributions to the Nigerian movie industry.
Kosoko has worked in both English and Yoruba movies, earning him a respected place in Nollywood.
