Usman Abubakar-Rimi, the final-year student of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS), who started food business during the prolonged ASUU strike, has died.

Abubakar-Rimi, a student of of medicine and surgery at UDUS, went viral after he opened a food outlet and noodle joint in the Diplomat area of Sokoto.

Last month, the student said he conceived the initiative in order to engage in productive living as the strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) forced students to become redundant.

According to NAN, the student died on Wednesday after a brief illness.

The news agency added that Umar Idris, a friend of the student and chairman of 21st Century Enterprenuer Hub, confirmed his death.

Idris said Abubakar-Rimi had been buried, according to Islamic rites, in his hometown in Rimi LGA of Katsina state.

He described the deceased as a humble person and a dedicated student and entreprenuer.

Abubakar-Rimi was the Katsina state coordinator of the 21st Century Entrepreneurs Hub. He actively participated in coordinating global entrepreneurship activities in 2019 and 2020.

He also coordinated Young CEOs meetup in Katsina, the largest CEOs gathering in the state, from 2019 and 2020 as well as other skills acquisition trainings.

His death comes at about the same period when ASUU suspended its over eight-month strike.
