Slami Ifeanyi, the fast-rising Nigerian singer and songwriter, has reportedly been shot dead by unknown gunmen in Anambra state.
It is understood that Ifeanyi was driving alone in his newly acquired Lexus when he was attacked and killed.
The incident happened over the weekend at the Umuebre axis of Akwa, the state capital.
Nwanya Bernard, a friend of the singer, confirmed his death in a Facebook post.
“This again tore me apart! Dude was my man from way back, hard working, Focused, talented handsome dude. And today I hear your gone, all because Nigeria failed you. The monster instituted by a failed system is eating up the future Ambassadors,” he wrote.
“Slami Ifeanyi of St Rita’s Hostel! RiP buddy Soon! We will take back our Country.”
The death of the singer comes a few weeks after he put out a new song titled ‘Chance’.
In 2019, the musician and former Mr Anambra Universe, also released ‘Romaro’, his hit track.
When contacted, Toochukwu Ikenga, the state police spokesperson, said the command is working towards identifying the victim.
“I don’t have anything on that for now but I can tell you that on Saturday, we have someone that was whisked away and later his lifeless body was found,” he told TheCable Lifestyle.
“We have arrested in connection to that. So, we’re still working on it. For now, I don’t know the identity of the person yet.”
