Seyi Law, the comedian, has attracted criticism on social media after he appeared to have called Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, a governorship candidate of the Labour Party, “the son of a returned slave”.
The controversy started after Rhodes-Vivour shared his opinion about the indigenes of Lagos on a recent episode of the Honest Bunch podcast.
“Come to me. I ran for local government election in Ikeja under the KOWA party. My name was Gbadebo Chinedu Rhodes-Vivour. These are my names,” he said.
“My mother is Igbo, my father is Yoruba. I am from Lagos. You cannot question my pedigree in Lagos. My family history traces back 400 years. The city was built on my family land. The people that know know.
“Indigenes of Lagos state are very few. That is why we say we know ourselves. You will meet someone and will tell you your grandfather this or that.
“Ambode for the most part was from Ondo before he now started claiming Epe root. There is one man that determines who the governor of Lagos state is.”
The comedian, who is a staunch supporter of President Bola Tinubu, on Monday, said his children would not be considered fit to lead the Yoruba people if they emulate Gbadebo’s qualities.
I never made a single tweet about GRV during the elections, but somehow, you people find a way of including me in his predicaments. His utterances during the elections betrayed him and not anybody.

“I never made a single tweet about GRV during the elections, but somehow, you people find a way of including me in his predicaments. His utterances during the elections betrayed him and not anybody,” he wrote.
“I have said it repeatedly that if my children lack the culture of respect, honour, truthfulness, bravery, and traditional understanding of the Yoruba people, may they not be honoured in Yoruba land. I am a very PROUD YORUBA MAN.
“You will be de*d before I renounce it. Somehow, you want to gaslight me with my colleagues who voted for your party candidate for not talking about elections again.
“They’re not talking because their candidate lost. Stop tagging me to your bull craps if you don’t want me to reply. RESPECT IS RECIPROCAL.”
This was after an X user simply identified as Uncle Charles disagreed with Law’s previous opinion about Gbadebo, describing him as an “ignorant” person.
“Imagine Seyilaw, a stack ignorant illiterate whose qualification is a road side recharge card seller using such bigoted words addressing an MIT trained Architect, a son of the soil of Lagos State. A vibrant, young technocrat from Lagos State who can trace his ancestry as far back,” Charles wrote.

Furious by the user’s remark, Seyi hurled abusive words at Charles. He said he is a “bigger stakeholder in Lagos” because he is from the Ilaje tribe in Ondo.
The comedian also took a shot at Rhodes-Vivour, claiming he is a “son of a returned slave who decided to stay in Lagos”.
“Your stupid father should have taught you that I am more of a bigger stakeholder in Lagos than the son of a returned slave who decided to stay in Lagos. O da bi aye awon to bi e fe baje. I am an ILAJE with Mahin origin. Go and ask about us in Lagos before the partitioning of states. Olosi ikeroadsideji aja. Ka a da fun e,” he wrote.
It seems you and @GRVlagos want to hear the history his parents kept from him.

Seyi’s tweet, however, did not sit well with some X users who took to the microblogging platform to criticise and mock him.

The problem with @Seyilaw is that he knows his intended audience are half-baked, semi illiterates.
Let's do some education here.
Mahinland was Never a Part of Lagos. It was a part of "The Colony and Protectorate of Lagos" which covered from Badagary to about Edo state today.… https://t.co/NpM9NHvMZw pic.twitter.com/L0J3fK8Kz4— Ñtú Mágbúrú Ényí of Igboland. (@MichealEgwuonwu) March 12, 2024
SeyiLaw then rushed to go and post his pictures with Noble Igwe as proof to say "he doesn't hate Igbos" We know what you are.

To be honest yea, it is now very evident that Seyi law wants to stuff GRVs phallus down his black oesophagus until his ribs can feel it. Because I could never understand this obsession with GRV though……

Did SeyiLaw smoke Igbo when he made that tweet about being a bigger stakeholder in Lagos than GRV?

I apologize to Ilaje people, one of the real indigenous people of Nigeria, and the direct descendants of Obatala.
Was not my intention to denigrate you, I was only trying to point out to Seyilaw that neither he nor his father is not from Lagos.
Ilaje is one of Nigeria’s oldest…

You're an African man using slavery to score cheap social points.
You're nothing but a lanky wanky, mentally twisted failed comedian.
Angels on internship moulded you, God saw the prototype then stepped out to the backyard to laugh.
Baba Suwe that stopped downloading at 23%. https://t.co/sKahCx3IoX
