Seun Oloketuyi, the founder of the Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards, has revealed why Owerri, the capital of Imo state, was picked as the host city for the 2022 edition of the annual event.

In a statement on Thursday, Oloketuyi said Owerri was selected to host the event because of the state’s contribution to the growth of Nollywood over the years.

According to him, the “history of Nollywood is incomplete without Imo state and Iweka Road, which used to be a major distribution getaway for Nollywood productions during the hay days of digital video disc sales.”

He added that holding the event in Imo was also to appreciate the support of Hope Uzodinma, the state governor, to the movie industry.

The film producer said nominees for this year’s edition of the awards would be unveiled on October 15.

Oloketuyi also disclosed that Francis Onwochei, the movie star, would head the award jury for this year.

“We’ve taken the 14th edition of the awards event a notch higher by ensuring that it’s at par with the best of what is obtainable in the world and it can only get better from here,” he said.
