Seun Egbegbe, a filmmaker accused of stealing phones at Computer Village, was on Thursday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court, Lagos.

TheCable Lifestyle on Tuesday reported that Egbegbe was apprehended while trying to escape in a jeep with the phones stolen from Kaaltex Innovation Consultancy.

The filmmaker had initially denied stealing the phones through a personal statement and another released through Bidemi Amzat, his publicist.

Egbegbe, who was detained at the Area F Command Headquarters in Ikeja, told the police that he wanted to pick the money from his vehicle when the sales boy alerted the mob that beat him up.

He was arraigned on one count of stealing before Y.O. Aje-Afunwa, a chief magistrate.

According to the charge sheet, the filmmaker’s offence of stealing nine iPhones worth N2.4m, contravened Section 278 of the Criminal Law of Lagos state.

The charge read, “That you, Oluwaseun Olasunkami, on November 22, 2016, at about 9am, at 9, Simbiat Abiola Way, Ikeja, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did steal nine iPhone 6s, valued at N2,400,000, property of one Kaaltex Innovation Consutancy, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 278 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.”

Egbegbe pleaded not guilty to the charge and elected summary trial while the presiding magistrate admitted him to bail in the sum of N1m with two responsible sureties in like sum.

The sureties must present evidence of tax clearance and their residential addresses for verification, said the magistrate.

Egbegbe’s case has been adjourned till February 8, 2017.
