Serena Williams, American tennis superstar, has given birth to a baby girl.
Williams welcomed her first child with Alexis Ohanian, co-founder of Reddit, on Friday at St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Florida, US.
The baby girl, according to WPBF-25 news producer Chris Shepherd, was delivered via c-section at noon.
Venus Williams, a tennis star and sister of the new mother, struggled to find the words to convey delight.
“Obviously I’m super excited. Words can’t describe,” she told ESPN moments before her US Open match in Queens, New York.
R&B singer Beyonce Knowles took to Instagram to send her well-wishes, posting a photo of Williams during her pregnancy with the words, “Congratulations Serena! So much joy for you”.

The 35-year-old had in April revealed her 20-weeks-old pregnancy on Snapchat, a disclosure she would subsequently admit was accidental.
Williams and Ohanian, 34, were engaged in December.
Although the couple wanted the sex of the baby to be a surprise, Williams always knew it was a girl.
Ohanian made this known during a late-night talk show, saying: “[Serena] won the Australian Open while pregnant. And she remarked that she feels like it has to be a girl because everything that that baby went through and handled like a champ, only a woman could be strong enough to take on.”
