Sarah Martins, the actress, has opened up about her painful past relationship where she financially supported her ex-lover for six months.
Martins was reacting to fashion entrepreneur Veekee James’ story of abuse and financial exploitation by an ex-lover after setting up a business for him.
In a recent Instagram post, Martins revealed she once gave 50% of her monthly salary to her ex-lover for six months, only to discover he was using the money to fund another woman’s business.
The actress said the woman eventually married someone else, leaving her ex-lover abandoned. She confessed that the experience turned her into a “gold digger”.
Martins also called on women to assist their partners, but only if the support is reciprocal.
“After listening to Veekee James experience in her formal relationship, all I can say is, stop overplaying your role in a relationship! Omo if we open mouth to begin talk wetin independent women dey see for relationships you will understand the reason why most of us are currently gold diggers!” she wrote.
“Is okay to support your man but the man must have given you a certain level of support before you think of reciprocating the support in his own time of need!” she added in the caption.
“There was a time I gave my ex 50% of my monthly salary for 6 months and the werey was giving the money to another woman.
“He even funded her business from my sweat and the lady married someone else months after he finished setting up her business.
“I’m a lover girl and I go hard for people I love but ever since them show me shege on top my kind heart, I no dey give man shishi! With my full chest, I am currently a gold digger!
“#note, I will support my man the best way I can but my man must have supported me to a level that will warrant me to reciprocate his support in his own time of need!”
